It connects straight to your Mac: no accounts, and no server can see your screen. ¿Mande? At your command. Tap one and you are in. ### Feels native Touch, trackpad and keyboard, in Liquid Glass built for iPadOS 26. ### Private by design Your iPad talks straight to your Mac. No accounts, no analytics, nothing in between. ## Mande Companion for Mac Scan a code once. Your iPad finds your Mac nearby on any Wi-Fi, at home, over your VPN and from anywhere. [See how pairing works](https://mande.dev/companion/) ## Open source Every line of Mande is public under the MIT licence. [For developers](https://mande.dev/developers/) --- # Features > A Screen Sharing client written new for iPadOS 26. Canonical: https://mande.dev/features/ Source code: https://github.com/joshelson/mande ## What it does ### Finds your Macs Bonjour lists every Mac on your network with Screen Sharing on. Tap one to save it. Over a VPN, add one Mac by its address and Mande finds the rest. ### Touch and trackpad Tap to click. Or use the whole screen as a trackpad: drag to move, tap to click, two fingers to scroll or right-click. ### Keyboard A hardware keyboard just works. The on-screen keyboard puts every Mac key one tap away, including ⌘, ⌃ and esc. ### Menu bar, Shortcuts, Spotlight A Session menu and New Mac in the iPad menu bar. Open a saved Mac from Spotlight, Shortcuts or Siri. ### Liquid Glass Panels and controls use the system's own Liquid Glass. Mande is written for iPadOS 26, so every screen is made once, for now. ### Fits your connection Colour depth and frame rate follow your measured speed, or pin a profile yourself. ### Several sessions Open more than one Mac at a time, with Stage Manager and external displays. ### Apple sign-in Mande speaks macOS Screen Sharing's own sign-in, so you connect without changing your Mac's settings. ### SSH tunnel Carry the whole session inside SSH, with a gateway key pinned on first use and your iPad's key kept in the Secure Enclave. ### Keychain Passwords stay in the iPad's Keychain, optionally behind Face ID or Touch ID. ## What you need - An iPad with iPadOS 26 or later. iPhone is planned. - A Mac with Screen Sharing on: System Settings, General, Sharing, Screen Sharing. - For Mande Companion, a Mac with macOS 26. --- # Mande Companion for Mac > A small menu-bar app that pairs your Mac with your iPad once, then keeps it within reach. Canonical: https://mande.dev/companion/ Source code: https://github.com/joshelson/mande ## Pair in seconds Choose Pair an iPad in the menu bar. The Mac shows a QR code and a short code. Scan it, type it, or open a `mande-pair` link on your iPad. The code is good for one use, and stays open for five minutes. Your Mac then appears in Mande with its key already trusted. There is nothing else to set up. ## Your Mac, within reach - **Nearby, on any Wi-Fi.** Mande Companion links over peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, the radio AirDrop uses, even on hotel and office networks that keep devices apart. - **At home** on your own network. - **Over your VPN.** - **From anywhere,** through the Companion. For the hardest networks there is an optional relay: Mande Relay from the App Store, or your own on Cloudflare. A relay only ever carries encrypted traffic. ## The menu-bar panel A glass panel in your menu bar shows your live sessions, how your Mac can be reached, and recent activity. The menu-bar mark fills in while an iPad is connected. Only the iPads you paired can connect, and all they can reach is Screen Sharing on that Mac. macOS still asks for your account's name and password. ## The mande command Everything in the panel is one command away. Every command takes `--json` for scripts. ``` $ mande status # sessions and addresses $ mande pair # open pairing and show the QR code here $ mande devices # list paired iPads $ mande remove NAME # unpair an iPad $ mande logs -f # follow connection events $ mande doctor # check how an iPad can reach this Mac ``` `mande install` links the tool into `~/.local/bin`. --- # Privacy > Mande collects nothing. Canonical: https://mande.dev/privacy/ Source code: https://github.com/joshelson/mande ## The app - No accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry. - Your iPad connects only to machines you name: your Mac, and your SSH gateway if you set one up. - Passwords live in the iPad's Keychain, never in a file and never synced. - No server of ours sees your screen. ## This website - No cookies, no analytics, no third-party fonts or embeds. - Hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which handles ordinary request data to serve pages. ## Encryption VNC itself does not encrypt a session. On a network you do not trust, turn on the SSH tunnel for that Mac, or use a VPN. Read the [security policy](https://github.com/joshelson/mande/blob/main/SECURITY.md) for the details and to report an issue privately. --- # Questions > Short answers. It covers everything in the [repository](https://github.com/joshelson/mande) except what is reserved below. ## The name and the icon "Mande", the Mande name, and the app icon and artwork are reserved by Joshua Elson and 5060 Solutions, LTD. It is the arrangement Mozilla uses for Firefox: the software is free, and the identity that vouches for a build is not. You may build, run, modify and redistribute the software, publish a fork under a different name and icon, and sell what you build. Please do not publish a build as "Mande" or under a confusingly close name, use the icon to identify a build that is not ours, or imply that a fork is endorsed by this project. To use the name for something, such as a package or a compatible client, just ask. ## Third-party code and type The VNC engine is an original implementation written from the published RFB specification.
